Sunday weigh-in : A Lucky Escape !

I was convinced this week was going to be bad news so I was delighted to jump on the scales and get a no-change. Well, to be absolutely honest, it's a 100g gain which takes me back to 82kg but I'm counting that as a no-change so that I can stay in the 81's. I've no doubt I could make the scales say 81.9 if I tried hard enough and got on and off enough times !

So this made me wonder, why was I so convinced it would be a disastrous week? It's been a rubbish week at the school canteen - no fruit at all on some days, just stodgy cakes for desserts - and the salad bar was replaced by hot slices of quiche on another. I've been cooking lots of hearty comfort food but, when I think about it, it's not been that unhealthy actually, using fat-free yogurt instead of cream and packing in lots of vegetables. Last night, I was cheesed off, thinking that I'd have put some back on so I pigged out on the kids' leftovers, finishing their buttered toast. Note to self : stay positive and throw their leftovers in the bin, not your mouth !

Positives of the week

- No time to listen to the SlimPod or do sport, rubbish choices at the canteen all week but I still came out on top !

Current targets

Last week's target was : Stay in 81 point somethings and aim for a loss, however small. Keep making good food choices and reaching for water, not diet coke. (DONE - ish!)

This week's targets : Last week of school. Stay positive and make plans (menu plan/shopping list/ plans with the kids) to get active and eat healthily.

Longer-term targets : Get back to the 70-somethings. Get my badges back to "weight lost" being more than "left to lose" (they were on 29lb lost/28lb left to lose just before the summer so let's aim to get back there as quickly as possible.)

Lose a stone (6.35kg) by Christmas challenge : 1kg lost so far - that's already 16% of the target achieved !

START WEIGHT :93.7kg
TARGET WEIGHT : 67.8kg
WEIGHT LAST WEEK  : 81.9kg
WEIGHT TODAY : 81.9kg
WEIGHT LOST SO FAR :  11.8kg
STILL TO GO : 14.1kg
CHANGE THIS WEEK : -0kg

Sunday weigh-in : That's more like it !

Last week, I was gutted to see my weight going the wrong way. On Sunday, I replaced my usual roast spuds with braised red cabbage and went to the park with the kids where we spent 20 minutes jumping and throwing sticks, trying to get some conkers down for our nature crafts. I jokingly said on twitter afterwards that that must have been the equivalent of a zumba session ! Well, just out of interest, I jumped on the scales on Monday morning and was stunned to see that my weight had gone back to where it was the week before. Now, I'm not silly - I know I didn't lose 600g in a few hours - but it just reinforced what I already know - weight fluctuates all the time and being a slave to the scales is not good.

This did set me up for a good week though as I was feeling confident. It was still a lovely surprise to jump on the scales and see - 81.9kg. Yay, back into the 81's ! Phew !

Positives of the week

- I made a few sensible swaps which meant I ate the same as the rest of the family but with fewer calories.

- I've been drinking lots of water.

- No time for sport but lots of walking and energetic play with the kids at the park are still better than nothing.

- By setting myself a mini target that didn't focus on the number on the scales, it was easier to keep on track and in control.

- Planning ahead saved me on Friday - taking a Slimfast meal replacement "just in case" avoided unhealthy choices and quick snacks where I could grab them

Current targets

Last week's target was : Keep eating healthily and stay positive. Start listening to the Slimpod regularly again.Try to get in some exercise, even if it's running around in the park with the kids. (DONE !)

Slimfast on the go review

Quite some time ago, I was sent a few products to try out from Slim-Fast's 3-2-1 range. If you're a regular reader of my blog, you'll know that I'm watching my weight - in fact, the lovely Jane at 7hippopotamus has challenged a whole group of us bloggers to lose a stone by Christmas ! - so I was really pleased. However, they've been sitting in the cupboard ever since. To be honest, I'd much rather eat a salad, a bowl of soup or a low calorie meal than drink a shake or eat a meal replacement bar, because psychologically, I'll feel more full up and satisfied and less likely to snack later in the day.

However, yesterday was a totally manic day. I kept thinking of the film Planes, Trains & Automobiles as I did my own version - buses, trains and undergrounds - to get to a meeting about the trainee teacher that I'm looking after this year. I was let out of school early at 10.30 which just gave me to time to get to my 11.08 train on the other side of town, but by the time I arrived at my destination, I only had 20 minutes for lunch. That would have been fine but I hadn't counted on the fact that all the sandwich shops would have huge queues of students waiting to be served !

Luckily, I'd planned ahead and thrown a couple of the Slim Fast products in my bag. The bar was a Summer Berry bar, packed with crispy rice in gooey chewy fruity bar (it contains cranberries, raspberries and freeze dried strawberries) and - I was pleasantly surprised to discover - it is dipped in white chocolate. It tasted absolutely delicious and filled me up a lot more than I expected. My one criticism is that there is no mention on the packaging anywhere to tell you if this is a meal replacement bar or a snack replacement bar, which is actually a really important distinction ! As it was so big and chunky, I rightly guessed that it was a meal bar and ate it as breakfast at the bus stop on my way in to work.

The ready-to-drink shake was lovely. I had the vanilla one and was pleasantly surprised by the taste but also the texture - it wasn't at all gloopy or powdery as I feared. It did start getting a bit sickly towards the end of the bottle but I was pleased to see that it did fill me up and left me not feeling hungry until I got home at the end of the day.

If you want a quick diet-friendly solution on the go when you know you won't have time to eat a proper meal, these are ideal.

Sunday weigh-in : Can do better !

Last week, I was determined to get my weight loss back on track and confidently said : "Next week WILL get me into the 81 point somethings, even if I have to chop an arm off ! (Or maybe not !)" Well, I'm glad I added in the bit in brackets because this week sees a gain - only 600g, which isn't a huge amount, but it's still going the wrong way. I'm not really sure why - I've switched from salads to warmer comfort food but a lot of it has been veggie-based. I haven't had a chance to do any exercise but things are just too manic at work at the moment so I'm not getting home in time. Oh well, overall, I'm still in a better place than I was at the start.

Positives of the week

- eating lots of healthy meals cooked from scratch

- going back to drinking water instead of diet coke

- my weight may not have gone down since going back to school but my jeans are feeling looser - that's the little sign that the Slimpod is working !
