29th March

A bit of colour work trying out some techniques recommended by the man olivier. I feel like a jedi student trying to learn control of the force!

New model this week who had real short hair, like that woman from Star trek motion picture. She was a little bit scary and started laughing to herself at one point which kinda put me off a little! Still, it was good to draw someone without any hair to distract, it made it a little easier to concentrate on the form more so i think ill try and do that more with the models with hair from now on!

Proportion issues with the leg and body here.

Bit of trouble with the scale of the upper body and legs again here.

So for tonights work, heres two versions of one of the drawings: the original photo (yes i have no scan-anas) and an attempt at a cleaned up version that i put through photoshop quickly.

This version gets rid of some of the glare on the pencil marks around her face. I guess I could scan all this stuff at work but I dont really have the time! This kinda gives it a gritty look that i like anyway, and at the same times it hides a lot of the bad lines.

This pic came out pretty good in the end. Im still taking far too much time though, this was 10 minutes thereabouts. However, I am managing to draw in the models face on a semi regular basis now which is an improvement in itself.

This back study is a bit of a mess. The area around her lower back and foot came out okay though I thought.

And finally a very nearly complete (not not entirely accurate) face on a body! I didnt get a chance to put any detail into the back and leg really which was a shame.
Still, next week I'll go for the grand prize and finish a complete drawing!

Its been 3 weeks since the last life drawing class, so Im back to being a little bit rusty! I have however found a new favourite pencil, its a propelling pencil with a 1mm lead that Im guessing is at least a 3B, possibly a 4B. It (I) makes some beautiful lines on paper, i just need to recapture the confidence with putting lines down in economy and itll be a treat!
Anyway, to make up for the lack of pictures from the last few weeks, here's the evenings work in it's entirety! Some of it is a joke at best, but there are a few things that im pleased with.

The first picture has some MAJOR problems with proportion of the upper body, but the legs came out pretty good i thought.

These two probably came out the best in terms of proportion and weight.

This one came out alright. I thought she might have a slightly small head but I think its okay. Needs some features drawn in though!

This was a pain in the arse to draw! The rear doesnt quite work. Mainly cos i need to put some more detail into it, but im quite happy with the interaction between the head, hair, arm and breast.

The foreshortening on this drawing doesnt quite work, especially around the lower legs and feet, but i feel like i got the weight and balance right, and most of the shading works pretty well too, though the proportions around her tummy are a little off.

Thats the weather for this week. Perhaps there'll be a hailstorm next wednesday!
