9 months?!? Time for an Update!!

Wow, I really haven't updated here in a while. It's scary to think that someone could have had a baby in the time it's taken me to post an update. That's NINE MONTHS without so much as a peep out of this blog. Let me try to explain why:

Between now and NYCC 2012 when we had our first Ston'emm release, we've been VERY busy. Our 3 year old cat Whedon died very unexpectedly about 4 days before Halloween & the day before Hurricane Sandy hit us here on Long Island. So, it was just a huge disruption in everything we had planned for the Ston'emm and future releases.

Things were calmer, but still sad around our house due to our loss but we marched onwards as best we could. February we attended Toy Fair 2013 and that blizzard hit us causing further set backs. Plus, immediately after Toy Fair, we had to move out of our apartment of 3 years and scramble to find a new one. Luckily, we did and now we're all moved in with our good friend & collaborative artist Dex Antares in a really nice apartment.

After that insanity was dealt with things finally started to settle down & we began work on our toy line again. We've actually launched our own website over at Bahhglenncreations.com and will be moving everything from this blog over to our new site. It's taking a little while as it's about 4 years worth of postings AND Google deleted all my images so now I have to rebuilt it from the ground up.

*le sigh*.

So this should (in theory) be one of the last times I post on this blog. We've had a good run here, but we're evolving to the next step of our stories & custom figures and the new site just has so much more to offer. It's still under construction, but once it's up & running you'll be able to read bios for ALL the Ston'emm customs that were released during NYCC 2012; that's roughly 30+ character bios. We're also having a new Ston'emm release at the 3rd Annual Long Island Toy Show which should include 2 new Ston'emm colorways as well as some other surprises.

Once we get closer to the show, be sure to keep checking Bahglenncreations.com for updates and new photos.

Until then, take care everybody and see you on the new website!! :-D

Origin of the Ston'emms and More Original Drawings

As I think I mentioned before, growing up I always loved to draw & create new things. I had a few different "toy lines" (for some reason I always drew like I was making toys- go figure), the "Reptile Fighters", the "Bug Warriors" and then a 3rd series that I have no drawings from so I barely remember it. None of those seemed to last though, as I grew bored with them. Then, everything changed.

One day I rented a new game from my local Block Buster video named "Demon's Crest" for the Super Nintendo and was blown away by it. The designs, the music and the world; a whole world full of monsters instead of people. After that I started drawing all these interesting characters based off of my own world full of monsters & that line was dubbed "Monster Wars". Eventually that line's name changed into what it is now known as: "Creature World".

In Monster Wars there was all sorts of different beings, people made out of mud, plant/creature hybrids, living trees (inspired more by the Inhumanoids Redwoods as I'd never even heard of Lord of the Rings or Ents until 2001), etc. Eventually, rock people made their way into my world by the name of an evil Ston'emm named 'Crackapart'. I believe the Ston'emm were created after my love of the Granites from Hasbro's Inhumanoids as to this day that is one of my favorite childhood cartoons & toy lines.

It's funny that 1st Ston'emm we see in my stories was evil, as now their race are generally very much the opposite (although there's always a bad egg or two floating around). It wasn't until further down the road, probably towards the end of the 90's & the early 2000's that I started to flesh out the Ston'emm race & explain their existence more (I'll get into their story-based history in another blog post).

I already showed you all the 1st drawing of Crackapart, but here's a variant I made of him called "Shatter Crackapart". Basically he got a furry loincloth instead of being just naked stone & now had the ability to telekineticlly control stones and form giant hands to grasp opponents.

This version of Crackapart came out in Series 15 and it would be another 5 series before we saw some Ston'emms again. He was a heavy-hitting member of the 'Bringers of Bloodshed' aka 'the Bloodlords' and was a thorn in the side of the heroes of my stories off and on. For whatever reason he didn't stick around as the Creature World story progressed and this would be the last time he was ever mentioned. It's possible I killed him off, but I really don't remember. The drawing is a little better then the1st one I made, but even then it's hard to make out the face on him due to the dark colored pencils I used, I really need to re-draw him with less black & dark gray. I'd really like to introduce him into the story that's going on now with the Ston'emms, as I think an evil Ston'emm that wants to align itself with the Armovors would be a cool twist and really hit the morale of the Ston'emms to see one of the own turning on the rest of their kind.

These next two debuted in Series 20. First we have another evil but very odd looking ston'emm with an almost snake/reptilian look to it. His name, is Sword. I know, very original:

I believe this design was based off an earlier drawing that wasn't a ston'emm but I liked the idea of merging the two together and drew this. I'd like to re-visit this character also, especially to give him an updated design & even sculpt it. I'd probably change his name to 'Swordstone' as at least that sounds better then just 'Sword'; that's like naming a barbarian 'Axe' or 'Warhammer'. Keep in mind I drew this character before I even knew Poke'mon existed so the idea of a rock-snake creature wasn't inspired by Poke'mon's Onyx. Odd similarities though, especially with the little crest on the back of the head that I think Oynx also shares (very eerie....O_o..). Sword was an expert Crystalline Swordsman and wielded 2 of these blades with deadly accuracy. The tail he has even ends in a razor-sharp crystal blade that he used to attack a 2nd opponent in combat.

Next we have the 1st Heroic Ston'emm character I created, the rocky member of the 'Warriors of the Woodlands' (aka the Woodlords): Rokk! (Yes I know his name is horribly generic, I was 15 & had NO concept of what Copyrightable names were)

Rokk may have had a different name, as I can make out in my drawing book that I'd erased a name & wrote 'Rokk' in it's place. I can make out an 'R' so maybe he was named 'Boulder' until I remembered the Rock Lord of the same name? Who knows, it's a mystery for the ages. Rokk has the ability to morph his hands into stone hammers, shoot his fists like missiles at his opponents and re-grow a new hand. With him was his pet Rocklecta named 'Clamp Jaw' but also known as 'Lil' Grind' which I feel is a much better name & less the love-child of Clamp Champ & Trap Jaw from Masters of the Universe. I had a very small amount of this gray colored pencil so that was the major reason why Rock got clothing; this is also the 1st Ston'emm I drew where you can actually see his mouth & eyes clearly again thanks to the lighter gray. In additional to his attack pet Lil' Grind he had a Ra'lok which are large stone creatures that the Ston'emm used as steeds and battle mounts on Slauria. This is Rokk's steed Grinder:

A Ra'lok is a rock-bear type of creature, they run on all fours but can rise up on their hind legs to attack with their front legs. They have some pretty large, wicked claws on the front paws so they're very dangerous when angered. They lived primarily on Slauria so you don't find them with the space-faring Ston'emms that are fighting the Armovors. Ston'emms are able to forge weapons from stone & rocks with their hands and you can see Rokk's axe on the saddle strap for Grinder.

I was actually 16 years old when I drew these last 3 drawings as on the page above Grinder a date was written down: August 28th 1996. So just a hair over 16 years ago I drew these Ston'emms. I wonder what my 16 year old self would say if I showed him the sculpted Ston'emms I created?

I have a few more Ston'emm drawings from back in the 90's to show you, but I will save that for another day. ;-)

NEW! Ston'emm with Light-Piped Eyes!!

Back at the beginning of this month, Jeremy mentioned an idea to me that was so cool I hoped it could be pulled off. After a week or so the experiment was a success and Jeremy's idea became a reality: light-piped Ston'emms our homage to the Inhumanoids Granites are now even more fulfilled! I'm still cleaning up most of the parts, but take a look at what we made so far:

Stikks, General Mydiss & a Rock Roller homage

General My'diss

Rock Lords 'Rock Roller' Homage

Rock Lords 'Sticks 'N' Stones' Homage

Now, what does this mean exactly? Well every Ston'emm head from now onward will have a light-piped head ala the Inhumanoids Granties. Plus, the eyes/back-of-the-head are all one piece so you can swap the eyes around with another Ston'emm figure and really customize them that much more then normal. I think they all came out fantastically well & Jeremy truly out-did himself this time.

As we get closer to NYCC, more will be revealed about the Ston'emm and what other goodies I'll have for sale at the con & afterwards.

Bah'glenn Creations Next Release: the Ston'emm!

Okay, after a few months of preparation, my next new figure is ready to be revealed. Now, this race was created by me as a kid back in the 1990's for my "Creature World" stories that took place on the planet Slauria. Slauria is where the Canne'boids came from although that was during the distant past in my stories. The 1st Ston'emm I introduced was as a bad guy named 'Crack Apart' who could break apart into 4 smaller versions of himself, or into a pile of rocks and basically trample people.

Below is a drawing of him with another character I'd created called 'Gigantus' (yes I know, real original LoL.):

Inhumanoids was & is one of my favorite toylines & cartoons from my childhood and so was Rock Lords so I think the Ston'emm were born basically from the love I have for those two properties. Plus who doesn't like cool rock guys??

The Ston'emm (pronounced: 'Stone-M') are a strong, honorable people and experts at growing and cultivating crystals. 200 years before the catastrophe that mutated Slauria & created the Canne'boids happened, about 95% of the Ston'emm population left to colonize other worlds and they were not there when the Sporr'zah Invasion took place. Since that time, the ston'emm went into seclusion from the outside world and stayed to themselves on their new homeworld of "Quar'taa". No one has seen a Ston'emm in three centuries and the general belief of the galactic populace (aside from the people left on Slauria) is that they are mythical beings that never really existed.

Then the Armovors invaded Glyos via the Zorennor Gate and began their war. During this time the Ston'emm remained absent from the conflict. One day, a ston'emm by the name Sta'lagg of Granite witnessed the Armovors brutality first hand and returned to his people to explain to them of what he had seen. He stressed to them that the peaceful races of the universe and also their true home-world of Slauria are were in danger if this threat was not kept in check. Now was not the time for silence and hiding, now was the time for action.

Em'ralld of Feldspar, the head member of the Council of Stonez agreed with Sta'lagg and informed every able-bodied ston'emm to forge weapons and vehicles of war and prepare for battle. Even though they were not overly involved in the affairs of the Galactic Council, the Government on Pru'tarr or Glyaxia Command, to sit idly by and do nothing was not the honorable thing to do.

the Ston'emm:
"Ston'emms are masters of crystal cultivation & design. Their Pow'rr crystals are used to fuel their great stone-ships, vehicles and weapons and their Grav'etee crystals enable them to pilot their Aster-Crafts in planets with an atmosphere. A single Ston'emm warrior is as strong as roughly 5 Glyans, has a body composed of ni-impervious rock and are masters of melee combat. When injured in battle, a ston'emm can absorb local rocks and minerals to re-build it's body and repair any damage taken during the fight. Certain ston'emms can use this ability to bulk themselves up and increase in size."

Group Shot

Now, for the release info on how to get the figures:

Each figure has six hand-cast parts cast by Jeremy Sung of Spy Monkey Creations who has been instrumental in getting the ston'emm off the ground (you rock Jeremy, no pun intended LOL!). Each figure uses parts from 1 Hub set, have drilled-out hands to hold accessories & have a cloth belt. In addition, each Ston'emm will have some paint applications (eyes & teeth most notably) but for the most part will be cast in a unique colorway. Since Jeremy & I are both such huge Rock Lords fans, he had the thought to swirl colors together just like the Rock Lords did & I loved the idea. These are just a few of the Ston'emm I assembled so far, and there should be more on the way.

These will be going on sale first at New York Comic Con 2012 and then they will be available online after the show, probably a couple of weeks after the October Glyos release so people have time to regenerate their wallets. I haven't nailed the price for them just yet but I'll post it here once I figure it out. I still have to sand-down the rough edges on the parts & paint them so when I have more finished pictures to show you I will post them here.

Fan Art

Last month my friend Craig's son Matt gave me a drawing of some Glyans attacking a Shockforce Gobon as he was so excited about the Glyos toys I'd given him (his 1st purchase with his own money was a Shockforce Gobon). Needless to say, since then he's become hooked on Glyos just like the rest of us are and has a decent little stock-pile of figures.

I was so surprised about receiving the drawing that I promised to show it here on the blog for all the other Glyos fans to see. Check it out below:

Last time I spoke with Craig, he told me his son had 2 more drawings for me so I'll be sure to post those up here as soon as I get them.

As for news about the Canne'myte, we're still in the process of getting things cast up so when they're ready to be released I will post information up here on the blog. Also, Sunday July 8th 2012 is the 2nd Annual Long Island Toy Show and I will be there selling some of my toy collection & also enjoying the show. If you'll be in the area stop by and visit. For more info head over to their website: Long Island Toy Show

1st Test Shots of the Canne'myte!

These are the first test shots of the Canne'myte, it uses 4 hand-cast parts and fur so no Glyos parts are visible on it. This makes it the 1st custom of mine to appear 100% original! I'm happy with how it came out, the 1st release should be brown fur with Kobra Khan/Monster Minds brain Green parts. Eye & teeth color are still up in the air, but I'm thinking yellow eyes with maybe black or white teeth (nothing set in stone yet).

So far the price of these as full figures is about $20 a piece. Depending on how much demand there is, I might limit it to two (2) per person. There probably won't be any boxes for the Canne'mytes so I have to design header cards and bio cards to insert inside their baggies. Nothing finalized yet, just mostly discussion at this point.

After this initial release we might try for a DIY version that'll be cheaper and unpainted so people can build stuff with their own Gobon balls.

Let me know what you guys think and feel free to post comments & ask any questions.

Rubik's Snake + a Glyanaut = ???

After watching everything unfold over on the Glyos blog with the new "Tri Hub Wedge" vinyl set coming out on Friday, I finally lost it and made a white/blue Glyanaut to hang out inside my Rubik's Snake. Here are some photos to give you all an idea on what you can make with these Tri Hub Wedges or with a rubik's snake if you have one.

Rubik Runner

"Hover platform mode to carry a Glyanaut and a pair of passengers or some cargo over any terrain."

Rubik Shield Generator

"Converting to a Energy Shield generator, the Glyanauts are protected from meteor showers or any hostile aliens located in the Zorennor sector of space."

Rubik Hover'oid

"For a more heavily armored vehicle and with more maneuverability then the Rubik Runner, the Rubik Hover'oid is perfect for 1 Glyanaut to get in an out of a hostile area- and FAST."

Now, keep in mind that the Glyos Tri Hub Wedges have 3 connection points on them, so every large flat area you see on the Rubik's Snake (aka the Rubik's Twist) will be able to have a switch-pin attached or another small-peg vinyl part. So the customize-ability of these wedges is limited only by your imagination. I'm super excited for these things and can't wait to get a bunch of them to build with.

Custom Canne'boid Commissions

Since my next resin release is still a ways off (just to much going on this month. ), I'm extending an option out to any canne'fans out there. I will be selling hand-sculpted one of a kind canne'boids on order, so if there's a canne'boid design idea you have, send me a PM or an e-mail at BahglennCreations@gmail.com & let me know what you'd like to me to make for you.

Pricing & Options:
- One unique head & fur: $20 +shipping
- One unique head & pair of hands with fur: $30 +Shipping
- One unique head & pair of hands with fur AND a body: $40 +Shipping

Bah'glenn's workshop is now open, so strike while the iron is hot & let's make some 'boids!

The next two canne'pirates of the Dragon's Maw: One-Eye & Shark Hook

After creating Capt. Spakk Jahroh the other day, I've had canne'boid pirates on the brain (the canne'borg is on the back-burner right now, but one of my other canne'boids might need to be rebuilt- I have the technology) and set to work giving the good captain a crew.

Now, before I delve into the 2 new guys I have some back story: I've only been sculpting since late 2007/early 2008 BUT I've been drawing and creating characters since 1994-1995 with my old "Creature World" stories that took place on the planet Slauria (the planet where the canne'boids come from). Well back then I'd decided to make a team of pirates and created Captain Ang-grrrr to lead them. He was a mutated slaurian with a chip in his head that increased his strength when he became angry, but his crew was predominately made up of characters from non-Creature World stories of mine. But, amidst the re-used characters, there were 5-6 original pirates. So while thinking of ideas for new canne'pirates, I touched onto these older characters and "canne'boidized" them.

Original Drawings (circa the late 1990's):
"One-Eye"

One-Eye's one large eye was actually a doorway into another dimension where vicious creatures lived. He wore an eye-patch at all times to keep the doorway closed, but while in battle he'd often take the eye-patch off and call forth a monster to attack his foe. I'm not sure why I gave him 2 peg legs (feet?), maybe his original legs had gotten beaten off by the inter-dimensional creatures? o_O??

"Fishook/Shark Hook"

I remember drawing his while on vacation in New Hampshire in August of 1997. I liked the colorway & the name so much I later used them on a completely different character. With his original name & color now on another character, I re-designed him for canne'piracy.

New 2011 Canne'boidized Re-Designs

There are 3 more characters waiting to get sculpted up, but I might need more parts before I attempt that. They should be pretty awesome once I'm all said & done with them. I did draw out the build for one of them and it should prove to be a solid build when assembled.

Sculpted Canne'boidized Versions

One-Eye came out great in my opinion, it took me at least 4 tries until I finally got his head just right. The eye-patch sits snuggly on his eye & two teeth, but some fun-tack helps keep it from falling off. I gave him red fur as a homage to the black/red striped shirt the original character had

Shark Hook didn't get too much of an overhaul, he's a canne'shark and thus has the canne'boid underbite, scaley skin & fur. As a nod to the original Fishook's colorway, I chose green for his teeth & claws & I think it's a good contrast. Not sure if you can tell from the photos, but he actually has a few fish-hooks pierced through his tail, fin, nose & mouth. He came alright, but once I get some firmer sculpey I'll try making him a 2nd time.

I'll have full bios for both of these new canne'pirates probably by the afternoon tomorrow, baring any incident of course. Until then, I hope you enjoyed these new canne'pirates...hmmm...now all they need is a ship...

The 1st of (hopefully) many Canne'pirates: Captain Spakk Jahroh!

"This is Spakk Jaroh, Captain of the Pirate ship, Dragon's Maw! and This is a warning going out to any of you stupid fools thinking about gettin in my way, like the Travelers & Glyaxia Command. I've set a course for the Glyos System and while me and my crew sail the spaceways: NO ONE is safe! If you're not wanting to go to an early grave you'll steer clear of the sights of my ship! Fly them colors lads, let'em know the Dragon's Maw's comin' for 'em! HA HA HA!"

Go check out my post (CLICK ME) on the October Toys forum for his full bio & photo gallery. I'll probably edit them into this post when I get home from work later. Enjoy!

NYCC Halloween Exclusives go up for sale tonight!

The remaining NYCC Halloween Exclusive Canne'boids will be going up for sale at 6:30pm EST this afternoon/evening. There really aren't many left so this isn't a full release, more of a "if-you-didn't-go-to-NYCC-now-you-can-buy-them" kind of release.

Also, since I have so few of these left I'm going to have to limit them to 1 per person. There will be more canne'boids coming in the future, I have a few things in the works, so we'll have to see what we can put together. I don't like to talk about upcoming releases until I have finished products to show. This way I don't get bummed out when I can't release something, and you all get bummed out because you can't own that something. I'm working on a few sculpts now and they're shaping up to be pretty cool. I'll see if I can post teaser pictures when I get enough of it done.

Stay tuned here & on the forum for the drop!

Bah'glenn Creations: Post NYCC

The con was a freaking BLAST this year. Beth & I had a ton of fun and we both extend our sincerest thanks to Matt Doughty & Co for again allowing us crash-space at their booth, in addition to letting us sell some Canne'boids there. It was great to meet so many forum members in person, as well as speak with new customers who were just getting into canne'boids & Glyos due to seeing them for the first time at the show.

We still have some Canne'boids left for sale which should be going up for sale via my Etsy.com account in the next day or so. We're going to try using this method as it reduces the work my GF Beth has to do and allows the customer to pick exactly which canne'boid they want.

My thanks also goes out to Phil Reed over at battlegrip.com for posting some photos of the canne'boids during NYCC including an exclusive first-look photo of the Canne'lanturn head sculpt. I had planned on selling some hand-sculpted canne'lanturns at the con but due to time constraints and not feeling that they came out 100% right, I held back on them. The head on the far right should be the final head-sculpt, but I might take another crack at it to see if I can't make it even better. Even though Halloween will odds are be over by the time that head-sculpt get's cast and available for sale, I'll still release it anyway so people won't have to wait until next year to buy it.

Okay, now to pass-out as I'm still not 100% fully recovered from this past weekend. I look forward to Friday when I'm off of work and able to sleep late...

Comic Con 2010 Exclusive: Now Online!

First day of NYCC was a blast! It's so awesome to see everyone again since last year, almost like a "Glyos Family Reunion". Sold some canne'boids, but we'll see how they sell tomorrow & into Sunday (those Arctic guys are going quick- I only have 2 of the 4 left! O_O). Whatever isn't sold will be online for anyone interested.

Anywho, I figure as a sort of non-con exclusive for all the people who won't be at NYCC this weekend that I'd do something special for them. Since I ran out of last year's "Alien Mercenaries Fall Special" comic book, I am going to post it here for you all to read. In addition to that, I'm showing a brief 7-panel comic with shots taken at New York Comic Con 2010 that are being shown online for the first time!

I hope you all like it, and for those that never read the original comic you're in for a treat.

(November i.e. October 2011. I really am terrible at sticking to schedules...-Bah'glenn)

Now to go to sleep, wake up in...ugh 2-to-3 hours and go back to the con for another day of wackiness. I will see everyone there tomorrow!

-Bah'glenn
